About Cities of Europe
Cities of Europe is an independent hobby project built by Nick. The current containment release makes retained Eurostat provider data inspectable while keeping candidate status and unresolved evidence gaps explicit.
Why it exists
I wanted a straightforward way to compare European city data without treating unlike geographies as interchangeable. The current profiles are release-scoped Eurostat City Statistics provider records, not accepted permanent city identities.
Each retained figure keeps its indicator, reference year, unit, source, and provider grain. The aim is modest: make the available source data easier to inspect while showing what has not yet been established.
What the site covers
The current release keeps 695 candidate Eurostat provider profiles reachable and noindex. It renders retained direct City Statistics values. PAGE-004 adds linked authority records to seven profiles without treating the associated records as provider identity, boundary, or centroid evidence. The stored age-65-plus calculation remains private until P-012 accepts a display recipe. Six stable United Kingdom profile routes are withdrawn under COR-2026-003.
GISCO identity, geography, coordinates and maps; regional statistics; PPP; EEA air quality; and ERA5-Land climate are retained or blocked sources not in public use. Climate routes remain reachable with explicit unavailable-data messages and no values, ranks, tables, or exports. See the sources page.
Coverage is not uniform. A blank value remains blank. Country averages do not fill city gaps, and the site does not turn partial indicators into claims about the "best", "cheapest", "safest", or most liveable city.
Who operates it
I'm Nick. I work in software and data tooling, and I run Cities of Europe as a hobby project. Some of my other projects are listed at nmajor.com/projects.
I am the operator of this site, not a statistical authority. The methodology documents how source records become published pages. If something looks wrong, use the corrections process.
Independence
Cities of Europe is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Eurostat, the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, or Copernicus. Those organisations do not review or approve this site's use of their data.
