European city data sources

Population, housing, employment, education, birth and death rates, transport, tourism, culture and resident-perception indicators for European cities and greater cities, retrieved from Eurostat JSON-stat tables.

The geography backbone: official Urban Audit city / greater-city and functional-urban-area identifiers, names, country codes, FUA links, areas and NUTS3 codes.

Official country reference geometry used only to draw the country-locator outline on each city page. Projected to an SVG path with a per-country cosine-corrected transform; the city pin reuses the GISCO Urban Audit label point. A generalized locator graphic, not a boundary claim.

Regional context for the NUTS area each city sits in: GDP per inhabitant (NUTS3, nama_10r_3gdp) and life expectancy at birth (NUTS2, demo_r_mlifexp). Attached to cities, labelled as regional — never a city-measured value.

Country price-level context attached to each city by GISCO country code. It stays country-grain and is never treated as a city cost-of-living basket.

PM2.5, NO2 and O3 annual means computed from official EEA monthly city averages after monthly coverage filtering, with the EEA CityCode preserved in the metric grain.

Gridded reanalysis climate: mean annual / January / July temperature, annual precipitation and mean surface solar radiation (1991–2020 normals), assigned to each city's nearest grid cell. Wind is captured but not shown. Not station weather or a forecast.

Official Urban Atlas package catalogue is registered and normalized as metadata. City metric rows are blocked until FlatGeobuf class areas are overlaid against validated GISCO boundaries.

OECD FUA definitions are registered for future metropolitan indicators. No metric rows are published until a stable machine-readable source or reviewed OECD-to-GISCO FUA crosswalk exists.
